Superbowl XLIII

You didn't really think the end of the month would come without me mentioning the Superbowl did you?

                                             Arizona Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

A few notes about the Cardinals:
Everyone knows about the explosive Cardinal offense. I'm more impressed with their offense being quarterbacked by 37 year old Kurt Warner. Warner is a fun QB to watch because of his intelligence. Then there's wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Whoa. He could probably catch anything...including the Hale-Bopp Comet Marshall Applewhite went "crazy" over. Even better, Fitzgerald has a good attitude and good work ethic. Speaking of work ethic reminds me of Cardinal Strong Safety Adrian Wilson. Recently I saw an interview where he told the story about how in the off-season he and his family left for a 17 day vacation. After relaxing on the beach for 4 days, Wilson told his family to pack and get ready to go home. He felt like while he was taking time off, his opponents were gaining on him. That's a sucky deal for his family but you have to admire his commitment.
Also, the Cardinals have the second longest Championship drought in American sports. First of course is the Chicago Cubs as they approach 101 years without a title. The Cardinals haven't won a championship in 60+ years.

Larry Fitzgerald making one of his acrobatic receptions

A few notes about the Steelers:
Unlike the Cardinals, the Steelers are rich in football history. They have 5 Superbowl wins, a sixth win will be the most by any team. They have historic players like: "Mean" Joe Green, Terry Bradshaw, Rod Woodson, Franco Harris, Lynn Swan, Jerome Bettis and my personal former favorite Steeler, Greg Lloyd.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is the star of the team now and rightfully so. The great thing about the Steelers is they play with a blue-collar type of attitude which directly reflects the city of Pittsburgh itself. Naturally, Pittsburgh's defense is always stellar. Troy Polamalu leads the secondary with his ability to cover receivers and to come up and stop the run.
Linebacker James Harrison was NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Harrison is the only player to go undrafted then receive player of the year honors. Impressive.

At 6'5" 240, he's known as "Big Ben" Roethlisberger

So, basically the Steelers can either win another Superbowl marking the most wins for one team in history OR the Steelers can lose to the Cardinals, one of the most unsuccessful teams in American professional sports.

I don't really have a favorite NFL team anymore. I stopped "loving" the 49ers after all my favorite players from the 80s and 90s bailed. Now when I watch the NFL I typically cheer for teams that have former Boise State players or players I really enjoyed watching in college. Or both. Although, between these two Superbowl teams there's no players from Boise State, there's plenty I've watched since their college days. Despite all of that, the team I'm picking and cheering for has nothing to do with any of what I just mentioned. I'm going for the underdog. Go Cardinals!
Kurt Warner is amazing and Fitzgerald is superhuman. I guess I also tend to cheer for the team from the west.

I'm not one of those people who watch the Superbowl for the commercials, but I do enjoy them. I don't watch because of the halftime performance, but I usually I enjoy it. I don't watch because 100 million other people are watching. I watch because I love football. If nothing else, it gives me an excuse to eat a buttload of buffalo wings.

Get your Almond Roca!

If you've never had Almond Roca candy you must try some right now.  Even if you've had it before, get more.  Almond Roca is your cadillac of candies.  It takes great restraint to limit yourself to just one.   Yeah, like the potato chips but better.  I recommend buying them at Wal-Mart for a bargain deal of $4.88 per can.  Not bad.

Almond Roca is made by Brown & Haley Co. in Tacoma, Washington.  At one point I lived about 4 blocks from Almond Roca which made me deliciously excited every time I drove by.

Noah at 11 months

It was this moment when I realized what kind of personality we had on our hands with Noah. I knew I would someday have a kid that would match my bad temper (when provoked of course).
Noah is only 2 1/2 now and his temper has shown no signs of letting up. He can be challenging but that's what makes this little guy unique from the other boys. Well, that and his huge belly.
A boy after my own heart. No wonder I love this kiddo so much.

50 posts!!

Welcome to my 50th post since joining blogger! Ah yes, today is a day I celebrate doing something at least 50 times without getting bored and moving on. There is hope for me yet!
Posting 50 times is an infant number compared to most of the blogs I follow. For me, committing to something this long is a large accomplishment. A few months ago I attempted to run a second blog about one of my most favorite things in the world, Boise State Football. I easily burned out and had to cancel it. This is a good thing because I enjoy this blog more. Plus there's a lot less research involved when writing Jeremy's Forum.

I'm not sure how to celebrate this monumental occasion yet. I'm definately watching The Office tonight. I am getting hungry. That sounds like a good start...

Leno or Conan?

When it comes to late night TV there are two different types of people: Jay Leno fans and Conan O'Brien fans. I'm not going to go into all the reasons why I loathe Jay Leno so when it comes to talk shows I'm all about Conan.
With that said, Conan isn't everyone's kind of humor. I suppose that's why his show can be classified as cult humor. I enjoy how Conan is willing to make himself look like an idiot to get some laughs. It's one of his trademarks really. Conan is also very physical with his humor.
You'll definately notice that in this clip. This is one of my all time favorite Conan moments. Back in Conan's single days he was quite candid about his little crush on Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.

Random wallpaper

It's funny how some of the strangest or more random pictures make such good backgrounds for your computer.

Becka took this picture a few weeks ago while sitting in the parking lot of a Kinkos.
Give it a try if you wish.

Girl sends 14,528 texts in one month!

Really? 14,528 in 30 days? See for yourself.

To me this is a bit disturbing. Even worse this girl is 13 and the dad's solution is she can't text after dinner time. Yeah.
A few years back I worked with a girl and she informed me she sent around 5,000 texts per month. That is around 161 texts per day (the girl in the video sent around 484 per day). Anyway, when she told me that, it blew my mind.

Doesn't anyone talk to each other anymore? There's comfort in hearing a voice on the other end of a conversation.

Some might say, "but Jeremy, you send text messages." I do. My phone keeps track of my last 500 texts, which dates back to September 23rd. If you do the math, that's slightly more then 4 texts per day. And my last text was 6 days ago. That's not calling the kettle black.

Anyway, I get it. Texting can be good for some things. It's a quick way to say something without needing a whole conversation. But don't make it your main form of communication. Gosh.

Tune into Jeremy's Forum next time for more venting. Same Bat time, same Bat channel.

Dumb and Dumber or Eric and Timo

Eric and Timo love the movie, "Dumb and Dumber." They always go around imitating the DVD cover.
Harry and Lloyd journey to Aspin "where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano."

In Eric's attempt to make a silly face, it turned out more like a psycho face. Still funny though.

Lost picture

I've taken thousands of pictures over the past few years. The pictures I really like I either upload onto my Webshots account or I keep on my computer somewhere so I can have them handy any time I want to look at them. The thousands of other pictures that don't make it onto Webshots or a permanent folder on the computer is stored on CD-Rs. I was going through some of those CD-Rs recently and somehow this picture fell through the cracks of my flawless system.

Eric is only 18 months old here. This picture was taken in April 2003 at Uncle Brent's house in Tacoma, Washington.

Isn't he cute!?!

Water please

So, last Tuesday I became a member of Golds Gym. It has nothing to do with a New Years resolution, it's just a coincidence. Along with Golds Gym I decided to cut down drastically on soda pop/energy drink/other drinks harmful to my body. And by "cut down" I mean quit cold turkey. This is an endeavor I embarked on in 2006. In 2006 I went about 8 or 9 months without a sip of pop. The catch was I drank a buttload of Full Throttle while I went "pop free."
This time I'm cutting out the Full Throttle and most other drinks. It's been a rough week because of it. In fact I've hardly shaved. Now my drink of choice is water. Plain ol' water. Don't get me wrong, I like water. But last night when I was eating my homemade cheeseburger I constantly fantasized about a drink with some flavor. Some may ask why I would deprive myself of such delicious drinks? It's simple really. I've never been so good with self discipline and I have a turtle like metabolism. Mix that with being part of a family where the men suffer from heart disease and you have a recipe for disaster.

Now it's been a week straight with just water, minus two cups of hot chocolate and a drink of milk this morning. It's been difficult but I'm already noticing some small changes. Nothing like when my brother Brent cut out caffeine and completely shifted the Global Economy.

Anyway, I've already noticed changes like slightly more money in my wallet.
My energy level is up.
My pee doesn't look like solid gold anymore.
It doesn't feel like I constantly have a pot of acid brewing in my stomach. Which means I get a lot less stomach aches.

Believe me, Mountain Dew and energy drinks taste like liquid heaven but feeling better is a much better reward. Hopefully, I can get to a point where I can enjoy "liquid heaven" without over indulging. But for now I have to test my will power.

A new delicious drink

First of all, Happy New Year!

Many people like to party and get drunk on New Years Eve. Others might stay home and watch Dick Clark and drink some wine. Not us. We're a little different. Becka tried a different kind of drink...thanks to a ridiculous amount of peer pressure from me.

One of our goldfish died so I dared and dared Becka to eat it raw. Next time it's my turn. I'm pretty sure after that we'll stick to eating snapper.
